Shot 1: Inbound Thought of the Week

Welcome to our HubSpot Gotchas show!

IMG 0878

Before we get onto some gotchas, let’s chat about the Inbound event, coming up in September.

201 days until Inbound: http://inboundcountdown.com/

Inbound Prediction: Chris Rock for INBOUND Rocks

https://www.inbound.com/

The basic 2018 agenda is there!

Hi Justin

Plus, we just wanted to send a shout out to Justin Theng – great to catch up with you for lunch today!

Thanks Paul

And thanks to Paul – a loyal listener – to alerting us to problems with the HubShots Group on Facebook – we had missed updating the group. Doh!

HubSpot analytics: Visitors versus Sessions

https://blog.hubspot.com/customers/new-hubspot-traffic-analytics

https://knowledge.hubspot.com/articles/kcs_article/reports/whats-the-difference-between-visits-and-sessions

(Simple rule: sessions expire after 30 minutes of inactivity)

Note that HubSpot analytics reports are reporting Sessions instead of Visitors. This has been rolling out for a while, but has now been updated in the Marketing widgets on the dashboard.

These updates also flow through to 3rd party tools eg Databox

So if you’ve setup Databox reports, you may need to change the labels you’ve set in the dashboards.

We chatted about this in detail back in Episode 92: https://hubshots.com/episode-92/

Shot 2: HubSpot Marketing Feature of the Week

Customize Lead Flow Form Fields & Block Specific Email Domains

c663124a 7054 41e8 93a8 edb9a70aed12

Persona field is a good example of one that you’d want to change the label on.

Shot 3: HubSpot Gotcha of the Week

Duplicate Contact fields names eg First name, Last name, Email

Often happens when you have Collected fields enabled – the collected form fields will include fields on the form (eg from another form tool) that match HubSpot existing fields.

contact properties

This can cause confusion for creating smart lists, triggering workflows, etc

select contact property

Which one should I use?

Workaround: create workflows that sync the two fields (create two workflows for each field, so that it syncs both ways to keep both fields in sync)

In a workflow you can hover over the fields to see which one is which – see the bottom hover URL details:

workflow hover

Check this carefully for the syncing workflow.

And then once synced you can use either of the contact fields in smart lists etc from now on.

Thanks to Casper from HubSpot support for helping me with this.

Shot 4: Marketing Tip of the Week

Handy tip for cleaning up lists of URLs

Use the Remove Duplicate Function in Excel.

excel remove duplicates

Shot 5: Opinion of the Week

Research suggests car buyers will be increasingly willing to forego the money-saving ‘dealership haggle’ in return for the heightened convenience of buying online, says Holden.

What we want to highlight here is that people look for convenience over dollars.  More than ever consumers are looking for better and faster ways to transact.  This means that salespeople have a different role to play..if at all any in the process.  They are more likely to be brand ambassadors or enthusiast.  This is where I think Tesla has got it right.

“Modelling suggest that 30 percent of consumers are already willing to buy a car online – particularly among younger demographics – and that this proportion will only grow.”

“The research would say, people are prepared to pay a no-haggle price [in return] for convenience,” – Holden managing director and chairman Mark Bernhard

http://www.caradvice.com.au/621662/holden-online-retail-haggling-test-drives-will-become-part-of-the-process/

Shot 6: App of the Week

Apple Maps

But why you ask?  Well Ian has just started using Apple CarPlay and discovered a lot of businesses he tries to navigate to have no listing to be found or have an incorrect listing.  Making it hard to find them!

Tip: Check your Apple Maps listing is correct and has all the right information > https://mapsconnect.apple.com/. You will need an apple id.

Shot 7: Resource of the Week

Check out the latest HubSpot research on global content trends:

We’ll be chatting through some of these in coming weeks. Here’s a taste:

Shot 8: Quote of the Week

Worth a special trip

Now that more and more is ordered online, or experienced online, the only trips we take are special trips.

If your offering, your service or your place isn’t worth a special trip, it’s likely we won’t be coming by any time soon.

Shot 2: HubSpot Marketing Feature of the Week

Google’s Invisible reCAPTCHA Available on all HubSpot Forms

Security and ensuring a good user experience are of the utmost importance when collecting information from visitors to your website. Google’s latest update to their reCAPTCHA has a higher pass rate than its predecessor for HubSpot customers, and it requires zero user-input.

Goodbye Keywords tool

https://www.hubspot.com/product-updates/sunsetting-keywords-in-2018

Fare thee well, we’ll miss you HubSpot Keyword Tool.

Please don’t sunset the Prospects tool… we had a client who was very excited about the Keyword tool when we were demoing it to them this week.

Shot 4: Marketing Tip of the Week

Creating Lookalike Audiences for Facebook Ads.

Lookalike Audience

This is powerful when you consider the expanded reach you can have.

Globally, people spend an average of 50 minutes a day on Facebook, giving us ample opportunities to connect with the right people.

Make sure you have setup your Facebook Pixel and enabled it within HubSpot.  Best part is you can use your HubSpot lists to create lookalike audiences!

Shot 5: HubSpot Sales Feature of the Week

Meetings – some nice personalisation options when setting up a meeting link.

Shot 6: Opinion of the Week

Why I still don’t want to click your link to book time in your calendar…

Is it an age thing?

It’s obviously much more efficient, but it still feels uncomfortable to me – it’s like the person who shakes your hand with a dominant hold…

When we were organising time with Brian Halligan he didn’t palm us off with a link to book in time…

“The key thing with human/robot this interaction is that you need to set the expectation. If you say that a chat bot will be able to answer any question, for instance, humans will use it once, find the limitations, and stop using it. Set the expectation of users appropriately.”

Shot 2: HubSpot Marketing Feature of the Week

Understanding the different HubSpot Marketing versions:

https://www.hubspot.com/pricing/marketing

Free – when you are just getting started and want to see who is converting and the path they took.  Remember it only holds 7 days of contact data in the timeline.  Great for adding lead flows.

Starter – when you want to see contact timeline history and remove HubSpot branding

Basic – when you want to add forms, landing pages, blogs and send email campaigns

Pro – when you want to start adding Workflows and A/B testing

Enterprise – when you hit 33,000 contacts and want predictive lead scoring and want to manage multiple domains on the one account.

We also spoke about the redesign of the HubSpot pricing page > https://blog.hubspot.com/marketing/pricing-page-redesign-conversion-rate-optimization

Customer Service Idea of the Week

Intelligent on-hold voice recognition system – you’re put on hold, and it asks you what kind of music you’d like to listen to. It basically gives you an Amazon Echo experience. It has voice recognition and plays you music you request, answers general questions you ask etc.

Getting ready for GPDR compliance in the EU – the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

https://blog.hubspot.com/customers/making-your-mailing-list-gdpr-friendly-with-hubspot-permission-pass-campaign

Resources:

https://www.eugdpr.org/

The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) replaces the Data Protection Directive 95/46/EC and was designed to harmonize data privacy laws across Europe, to protect and empower all EU citizens data privacy and to reshape the way organizations across the region approach data privacy.

Who does the GDPR affect?

The GDPR not only applies to organisations located within the EU but it will also apply to organisations located outside of the EU if they offer goods or services to, or monitor the behaviour of, EU data subjects. It applies to all companies processing and holding the personal data of data subjects residing in the European Union, regardless of the company’s location.

Shot 1: Inbound Thought of the Week

Only 225 days to Inbound 2018 as we record this episode:

https://hubshots.com/inbound-countdown/

But only 30 or so days until the first Sydney HUG for 2018.

http://sydney.hubspotusergroups.com/

Sydney HUG at the end of February, and aiming for last Wednesday of every second month

Shot 2: HubSpot Marketing Tip of the Week

Getting your XML sitemap from HubSpot

Content menu > Content Settings > Sitemaps

hubspot xml sitemaps

Select your site, and the tick/untick which pages to include, and publish any updates.

Video: Adding your HubSpot site XML sitemap to Google Search Console

Shot 3: HubSpot Gotcha of the Week

Enabled SSL versus Enforced SSL

It’s easy to miss enforcing SSL on your site – you’ve setup the DNS for https:// but find that some links (eg XML sitemap links) are still http://

This can also happen with landing pages not forcing to https:// versions.

The solution is simple – you need to Require SSL ie force the SSL in domain manager:

Content menu > Content Settings > Domain Manager > Edit domain

Tick this option and Save:

hubspot domain ssl

Note: Can take upto an hour for all links (eg in XML sitemap) to be updated.

Shot 4: Marketing Tip of the Week

Mobile Search Ranking Factors

Mobile Search ranking factors – page speed becoming a factor in July 2018 (following the footsteps of Desktop which has had speed as a ranking factor for a while)

https://webmasters.googleblog.com/2018/01/using-page-speed-in-mobile-search.html

Only pages that “deliver the slowest experience to users” will be impacted by this update, the company says.

Shot 5: HubSpot Marketing & Sales Feature of the Week

Workflows versus Sequences

Marketing versus Sales

Workflows: Automated nurturing for lists (usually by Marketing)

Sequences: Automated follow up for individuals (usually by Sales)

Shot 6: Opinion of the Week

Voice Search – Neil Patel comment

Neil talks about it here [01:05] SEO is changing because of voice searches.  We mentioned this last week and how things will change.

So we need to diversify and be prepared for changes.  Never assume that things will remain.  Always be ready for change.
